Easter Traditions!

HPW, April 20, 2025May 1, 2025

Trying to jump back into blogging, family and traditions so we may as well start today! Our family history with religion, especially on the Slovenian side, is a story for another day but we’ve established some favorite secular traditions over the past few generations. With all of our extended family hundreds of miles away, Easter for us has been a small haven for many years. Growing up however, on my maternal side, my grandmother hosted an epic picnic for her extended family, coming close to 100 guests in her little ranch house. There were food tables on the patio, in the garage and in the kitchen full of goodies, but as a child my heart was there for the Hawaiian Punch, pineapple juice, sprite concoction in the punch bowl, all the hard boiled eggs I could smuggle (after we had hidden and rebidden them all day with cousins) and whatever candies the Easter bunny had brought in shiny pastel packages (hello mini-snickers!) and for a few years the fancy, decorative eggs my aunt made.

While a multi-generational, multi-family Easter hasn’t happened for a while, we do still enjoy egg dying and a few days before Easter the family group text will blow up in a modern sharing. And for our little family, we enjoy a quick photo on the stairs with the peeps the Easter bunny brings.

And some blasts from the past:

Pinatas were always a hit . . . ha!

Welcome! This is my blog to connect the nitty gritty work of genealogy and my digital family tree (start here!) with the stories behind the research, mysteries and questions that still linger. My hope is this space will become a shared space for stories, memories and sharing without the membership requirements other sites need.
