Mystery Photos HPW, April 25, 2025May 1, 2025 One inspiration to bring this blog back is to help broaden the number of people who can see the unidentified photos I’ve inherited. My grandmother inherited boxes and albums of photos from the “old world” that went unidentified due to language barriers and like all of us, too much to do and too little time. So, here’s a first batch. If you know who these folks are, please email me or leave a message! Adorable picture, no idea who it might be. Obviously this is grandpa John Majdic, Jerry and Johnny but I’m not certain who the visitor is. This one is clearly from Slovenia but I have no other idea on which side of the family etc. And this letter below is my absolute favorite. It’s a reminder that nothing much ever changes, though the internet sure has sped up some of these connections – sometimes finding family is nothing more than directory search and a hopeful message. That said, while I have records of the Setina family being born in the Smlednik Parish in Slovenia, I have yet to find our exact connection to Father Al Jenko and his brother Peter. I live in the small one in the back.” My best guess is that someone from our family was a caretaker, staff and/or lived nearby. The school… Read More
Slovenian Roots The Majdič Mill and Mansion May 10, 2025May 10, 2025 Digging into and understanding why our family immigrated to the United States has been a key point. And much like most genealogy I started asking the questions too late and the stories I’ve heard are hazy with time and history on the exact factors that pulled the family to the… Read More
